How to start Adsense Business

Google Logo bg:Картинка:Google.png
Maybe many of you have experienced the “post-blog launch depression“: you write and write, and write, you research and document your posts very well, yet no acknowledgment comes from the market. With barely any traffic and no subscribers, nobody would ever buy advertising on your site, because there is now benefit for the advertisers so far.
AdSense is one method of monetizing your blog from Day 1. In this series of articles, you’ll learn how to start using it on your blog, from applying and getting accepted, to tracking and fine-tuning your ads. The series will be spread over some two months time, so if you are interested, you can either bookmark this page (press Ctrl+D on your keyboard), subscribe by RSS, or subscribe by email.
We are going to talk about AdSense, but the general rules can be applied to any contextual advertising system. I’ve tried several contextual advertising networks, and I decided to stick with AdSense, because it was the most successful in terms of global earnings and clickthrough rate (CTR = % of clicks number out of total ad block impressions).

Contextual advertising means that if your articles are about fishing, the ads which will be displayed will be also related to fishing, like you can see in the image below. In this way, people coming to your site in search for information about fishing will be more tempted to click on fishing-related links than on any other kind of ads. This is why contextual advertising is most successful on targeted blogs (or the so-called niche blogs).

AdSense advantage

 Apply for Adsense Account

You need to have one site up and running in the moment of sending your application for AdSense to Google. Once you get accepted, you’ll be allowed to put ads on any blog you wish, without having to submit any of them for additional approval. In order to maximize your chances of getting approved, make sure you properly prepare your blog:
  • Write at least 10 posts before applying. There is no such indication on the AdSense official site, but as they say, “it is better to be safe than sorry”.
  • Get some links from other sites. Two easy ways to do it: comment on other blogs, or post in some forums with link to your site in the signature. The best would be to find blogs and forums related to your blog topic. When you do this, try to contribute to the conversation, don’t post stupid things like “Cool”, or “Nice”. If you write about that topic, you must be interested in it, so you must have something smart to say. If you spam, you’ll get the undesirable effect of getting banned.
  • Submit the best of your posts to social media. You don’t need to get on the front page; you’ll get some traffic from simply submitting and forgetting about it.
Please keep in mind that none of the above is required to get accepted into the program. However, the more legit your site is, the more chances you have to get approved. Besides, you have to take care of your blog’s marketing anyway, if you don’t want to get old waiting for people to discover it by themselves.
This is the application form you need to fill in and submit. Read it carefully, and make sure you also read the Google AdSense Program Policies before you submit your data.
The approval time is somewhere from 3 days to 2 weeks. If you don’t get an answer, don’t submit again your application. In case of rejection, you’ll be notified by Google, so “no news is good news”. Just wait.

Blogs for beginners

Your first post – the first post I ever wrote on ProBlogger (I’d been posting on other blogs for a couple of years before this) was in September 2004. It was titled – Get to the Point. It was actually a post that I’d written on another blog which I imported onto this one. On the day I published it I imported 40 or so previously written posts .

A post you enjoyed writing the most – 5 Things You Don’t Know about My Dad the ProBlogger. This post was a departure from my normal writing style and as a result I had a lot of fun both writing it and reading the feedback on it.

A post which had a great discussionDoes a Bloggers Age Matter? This was a tough one to choose because there have been a lot of great discussions on ProBlogger in the last 5-6 years. I’ve chosen this one because the discussion is not only rich but it is fresh and has only just slowed.

Blogger Training

Just over a week ago I had the crazy idea to run a training day for bloggers while Chris Garrett was in Melbourne. It was a spur of the moment idea and as a result something that I thought would be quite small, informal and relaxed.

I posted about the idea and asked for expressions of interest and was flooded with enquiries. What I thought would be a 20 person event was starting to look like a 50 person one. In conjunction with the team at SitePoint I started to look at venues of that size but as the expressions of interest continued to come in we realised we needed to think bigger.

We have booked a venue – the Jika International – which will seat 100 comfortably (there is a chance we can upgrade to a larger room) and on Friday opened the doors to start selling tickets (via this page on EventBrite).

As I write this – we have sold 88 seats and there are only 12 8 6 available. There is no guarantee we’ll get the larger room so if you’re interested – today’s the day to secure your place.

How to ReDesign a Blog

Constructing the sidebar was quite a feat. It took a fair amount of planning and testing to ensure the correct content was being displayed for the page you were looking at. The idea, was to show the most popular and recent posts for the blog you’re reading at the top of the sidebar, followed by most recent posts from the other blogs. This became complicated when we started adding additional pages to each faux blog, along with the posts they already contained.

There’s a single template for the sidebar which houses the content for each blog. The conditional tags tell it which content to display depending on what post or page you’re reading. For content relating to the Photography Tips and Tutorials blog, the conditional statement looks like this.

How to Stay Focused and Avoid Distraction as a Blogger

Ever sat down at your computer to blog for an hour only to find that when you get to the end of that hour you’ve done anything BUT what you sat down to achieve?

If so – you’re not alone. This video talks through some of the distractions that bloggers face as well as my simple 3 point strategy for staying focused. It’s not rocket science but as bloggers we need to be reminded of this type of thing from time to time.

Today I’m in the last stages of putting together a product launch and have been spending my day writing a sales letter for this particular e-book on my photograph blog and as happens when you have a deadline like this looming, it’s amazing the distractions that come your way. All day I’ve had little beeps go off on my computer as people have messaged me on Skype, I’ve had questions coming in on social media, my phone’s been ringing, I’ve had all kinds of ideas for things that I could do, new projects, posts that I could write videos that I could record, and it’s just been quite amazing to see all the things working against me. It’s almost like the world is conspiring to distract me from the task at hand. In reality it’s probably a fairly normal day in that way but I guess I’ve become much more aware of these distractions as I feel the pressure looming to get this task done.

And so I’ve been thinking about and I’ve actually got most of the sales page written now which is great so I thought I’d just talk a little about this idea of distractions because there are so many and it’s one of the big challenges of bloggers, is that I find that we are so tempted to get off those core tasks that we have at hand, all day we are being interrupted and distracted. Sometimes we’re being distracted by tools. This week I got an iPad. I’ve been so distracted by this new tool, this tool which has all kinds of possibilities but really none of them are really taking me towards my goals. I can see potential for it to help but it has been a bit of a distraction so we’re often distracted by the hardware tools but also the software tools, the new tools that we can use on our blogs, testing new plug ins, new tool bars, that type of thing.

We can also can be quite distracted by ideas. I am constantly distracted by ideas. Ideas for new projects, big projects, new blogs, new forums, new partnerships that you can start, new products that you can start. All these things are good but they can actually take us away from the thing that we need to do now, that number one thing right in front of us. So we can become distracted by ideas. We can become distracted by the tweaking, and it’s very easy to tweak a lot of things on your blog whether that be your design, your tool bar, even tweaking posts and headlines. Tweaking your SEO, testing different alternatives on your blog, putting up new idgets, new logos, all of these things, and again they’re all good things and it’s worthwhile tweaking and a lot of good can come from that but it also can be an incredible distraction, and one of the other things that I’m often distracted by is networking. Even now I just heard my Skype ping. Someone’s trying to interact with me and that could be really great interaction. The Twitter interactions that we have, Facebook, all of this networking can lead to great things but it can also distract us from those core things that we need to achieve today.
